These three papers present an organizational framework, an evaluation plan, and a training plan for an integrated cross-curricular tutorial program at Los Medanos College. First, the position paper establishes a standing committee to oversee the Second Generation Tutoring Program and the policies under which the program operates. It focuses on the purpose and need for the program, organization and administration, training, and policies. Second, the evaluation plan outlines procedures for assessing the three main components of the program: personnel, the tutor training classes, and program effects. The section on personnel evaluation describes specific procedures for tutors, paraprofessionals, faculty designees, and the tutor coordinator. The section on the evaluation of tutor training focuses on the worth of the training topics, activities, and materials, the quality of instruction, and the coherence of the training as a whole. The program effects evaluation uses a computer-based record-keeping system to determine benefits accrued by tutoring recipients. Finally, the training plan focuses on assisting a wide variety of tutees to face various problems in various disciplines. The training plan covers the content of workshops, class sessions, and lab time, which emphasize learning how to tutor and how to apply that process to disciplines, and developing an understanding of and sensitivity to tutees different from themselves.
