Troubleshooting Microcomputers. A Technical Guide for Polk County Schools.
Black, B. R.; And Others
This guide was started in 1986 as an effort to pull together a collection of several computer guides that had been written over the previous several years to assist schools in making simple computer repairs. The first of six sections contains general tips and hints, including sections on tool requirements, strobe disk speed adjustment, static electricity prevention, suggested inventory procedures, physical security, suggestions for inventorying and cataloging software, and information on the district's in-house repair service. The next four sections provide troubleshooting and repair guidelines for computers manufactured by Apple (Apple IIe, IIc, IIGS, Macintosh, and the Image Writer and Laser Writer printers); Commodore (Commodore 64); IBM (and IBM-compatibles); and Tandy (TRS-80). The final section includes suggested readings (books and magazines), a guide to diagnostic software, and a list of training programs in computer repair offered by Apple, Commodore, IBM, and Tandy-Radio Shack with procedures for obtaining further information. The looseleaf format of the guide is designed to facilitate frequent updating. (GL)
