This text was written for the elementary education teacher who has had little or no previous background in music. It is written primarily for classes in which fundamentals and methods of music are taught simultaneously. Section one includes step-by-step procedures to teach the structural components of each of the basic elements of music. Strategies for teaching the specific component are presented. Section two highlights the minimum music skills needed by teachers of classroom music. Section three guides teachers through the mechanics of preparing, sequencing, and evaluating music activities. Section four addresses two important aspects of the elementary music program: the integration of music with other subjects, and teaching students with special needs. Visuals, music selections, sequencing charts, blank pages, staff pages, and other pedagogical aids appear throughout the text. (JD)
