The Chicano Public Catalog: A Collection Guide for Public Libraries.
Gutierrez, David, Comp.; Trujillo, Roberto G., Comp.
The field of Mexican American studies has come of age only in the past 15 years. This bibliography represents a core library collection of works in Mexican American studies and the Mexican American experience. Works significantly influencing Chicano scholarship are also included. The bibliography is weighted to reflect the historical period from 1848 to the present; however, notable works pertaining to the Spanish colonial period are also cited. The biliography cites all major authors and publishers in the field, but excludes children's literature, non-print materials, and periodical literature because bibliographies already exist in these areas. The availability of titles cited was a criterion for inclusion. Chicano materials included are almost exclusively in English. The bibliography groups materials into 8 categories, as follows: (1) general works and bibliographies; (2) religion; (3) social sciences; (4) language; (5) arts and music; (6) literature; (7) history; and (8) periodicals. A brief annotation is provided for each entry, describing the scope and content of the material. There are both an author and a title index. This bibliography contains 487 references. (DHP)
