Corporate Advocacy: A Selected Review of the Literature.

This paper provides a selected review of the literature pertaining to corporate advocacy (non-product advertising by corporations, addressing political or social issues). More specifically, the paper examines research from the communication, business, public relations, and advertising literature dealing with justifications for the practice of corporate advocacy, analyses of particular advocacy campaigns, the effects of advocacy attempts, and target audiences for such campaigns. In addition to reviewing this literature, the paper offers directions for future research in this relatively recent area. Forty-four references are attached. (Author/SR)
