Maryland Functional Mathematics Test--II: Fall 1988 Administration. Report M-88. Technical Report.
Maryland State Dept. of Education, Baltimore. Div. of Instruction.
The Maryland Functional Mathematics Test, Level II (MFMT-II) assesses Maryland students' mastery of functional mathematics skills that are described in the Declared Competencies Index published in 1980 by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The test is also used to certify students for graduation from high school and to identify students in need of assistance in improving their mathematics skills. Forms 270 through 279 of the 1988-89 edition of the MFMT-II were administered to 47,024 public school students in grades 9 through 12 during the period October 17 to November 4, 1988. Students in all 24 school districts in Maryland took the test for the first time in grade 9; those who took it in grades 10 through 12 were transfers or had previously failed the test. Separate sections of this paper describe and report on the development procedures, technical characteristics, and student performance results of the 1988 administration of the MFMT-II. More detailed technical information and information on test reliability and validity is available from the MSDE. The percentage of students who passed on the first try decreased slightly from 1987. However, the mean scale score of 352.9 for 1988 represents only a 0.1 increase over the mean scale score of 352.8 for 1987. Nine tables present test results and passing percentages by grade. (SLD)
