Focus on Science Concepts. Science Concept Working Papers.
Cox, David C.
Major concepts can help create thinking frameworks that are powerful enough to make additional input more meaningful. As a result, the content is richer, more diverse, and more widely applicable. This set of concept papers was produced because concepts are not uniformly understood by practitioners. Each is designed to introduce a concept and to define it in language that can be easily understood by teachers. Examples are included from contemporary curriculum, sample instructional objectives that are desirable for concept learning, and to provide sample test questions with a commentary as to their appropriateness for measuring concept learning. Concepts included are: (1) "Cause and Effect"; (2) "Change"; (3) "Cycle"; (4) "Energy-Matter"; (5) "Organism"; (6) "Population"; (7)"Force"; (8) "Interaction"; (9) "Order"; (10) "Quantification"; (11) "System"; (12) "Equilibrium"; (13) "Evolution"; (14) "Fundamental Entities"; (15) "Theory"; (16) "Model"; (17) "Perception"; (18) "Symmetry"; (19) "Field"; and (20) "Gradient."
