MSEN Pre-College Program. Status Report.
North Carolina Univ., Chapel Hill. Mathematics and Science Education Network.
More than 1,325 students from 34 secondary schools have participated in the University of North Carolina Mathematics and Science Network's MSEN Pre-College Program. By September 1990, more than 1,840 students from 48 schools will be involved. This program is aimed at increasing the academic preparation of minority and female students in mathematics and science at the middle grade and high school levels, and increasing the number of students who pursue science and mathematics based fields of study at the university level. It is hoped that these students then move into careers in science, technology, engineering, and teaching. The program includes a combination of academic enrichment activities built into each student's core curriculum, as well as extracurricular activities. This document contains an overview of the program, a list of the organizations in the network, a discussion of funding, a list of school benefits, a suggested outline for the core curriculum, program highlights, evaluation data, and a directory of program coordinators and faculty sponsors.
