Quality Indicators for Gender Equity and Single Parent/Homemaker Programs in California's Community Colleges.
Designed to help educators in California's community colleges gauge the quality of their gender equity and single parent/homemaker programs, this document offers guidelines for program planning and evaluation, internal and external coordination and support, and curricular and service needs. Introductory sections discuss the efforts of a task force of practitioners, college administrators, and faculty drawn from community colleges throughout California to develop the indicators; the purpose, audience, and intended use of the guidelines; and the organization of the book. Following a mission statement for California community college gender equity and single parent/homemaker programs, program elements and quality indicators are presented in four categories: (1) ongoing program planning and evaluation to identify the needs of the target population and develop the resources and strategies necessary to deliver a viable program; (2) developing strong commitment and support from all segments of the college community; (3) developing cooperative efforts between college-based programs and other educational, business and industry, political, non-profit, and community-based programs; and (4) providing essential curriculum and support services that meet the unique needs of the target population. For each area, a rationale for the category, a listing of key program elements, and a list of quality indicators are provided. Appendixes contain a compliance checklist for federal and state equity regulations, sample job descriptions, and sample intake forms. (JMC)
