Look-Listen Opinion Project, 1988-1989.

The Look-Listen Opinion Project is an annual media literacy survey sponsored by the National Telemedia Council. The 1988-89 survey--the 36th--focused on the opinions of students at the elementary and secondary levels. Students were presented with guidelines for evaluating television programs and asked to select television programs to evaluate. This report includes a list of participating teachers; a description of the Look-Listen process; the thank you letter sent to students; results of the survey, including evaluation trends observed, programs evaluated, ratings, students' comments on programs, and sample critiques; teachers' comments; and a teachers' exchange. Appendixes include: (1) the evaluation forms used for grades 1-5 and 6-12; (2) a list of television programs for evaluation, which include programs on the public broadcasting service, cable, and commercial networks; (3) a television analysis form; (4) a primers sheet, i.e., suggested questions and considerations to provoke thought in television analysis; (5) guidelines for teachers; (6) suggestions for group follow-up; (7) guidelines for nominating students for sponsor recognition awards; and (8) a certificate of recognition and a Look-Listen Think! award sticker.
