The Third Curriculum: Student Activities.

Student activities, or what used to be termed extracurricular activities, is now being called by another term--third curriculum. Third curriculum is the most recent term used to describe a wide variety of school-sponsored teams, clubs, and organizations. Several aspects of the third curriculum are detailed: (1) need for student activities; (2) success and student activities; (3) participants versus nonparticipants; (4) social development; (5) student attitudes; (6) beyond high school; (7) community attitudes; (8) participants; (9) activities that draw a crowd; (10) reasons students participate; (11) nonparticipants; (12) leadership and student activities; and (13) administrator's role.
