Education in the South and Central Pacific: Comparative and General Studies, Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia. Books, Government Documents, Research Reports, Theses and Dissertations, Chapters of Essays, and Journal Articles.
Sperry, Robert
Thousands of social scientists and educators have visited the islands of the South and Central Pacific, studied or taught the people, and returned to their own Western nations where many of them have written about their experiences and observations. Much of the research was never sent to the region's own educational centers and libraries. This bibliography attempts to bring together from a variety of international publications, the diverse known writings in English concerned with education in the South and Central Pacific islands. The state of Hawaii is excluded, and coverage of French Polynesia and New Caledonia includes only the few reports in English. This 312-item bibliography consists of comparative and general articles, books, documents and dissertations on education in Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia. It is not critical; the usefulness of particular items will have to be judged by the user. Bibliographies on specific nations, colonies, and dependencies in the South and Central Pacific, together with discussions of their educational systems, have been compiled separately. (JB)
