Industrial R&D and U.S. Technological Leadership. From the Proceedings of a Symposium (Washington, D.C., November 10, 1987).
National Academy of Sciences - National Research Council, Washington, DC.
Without continued technical innovation and rapid conversion of these innovations to quality products and processes, America cannot remain a viable competitor in today's global markets. This volume contains five presentations at a symposium convened by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council. Participants were research and development (R&D) managers and scholars from industry and government. Chapters contained in this document are: (1) "U.S. Economic Policy: Implications for R&D" (Nathan Rosenberg); (2) "Reduction to Practice: The Development and Manufacturing Cycle" (Ralph E. Gomory); (3) "The Role of Management in R&D Strategy: A Case Study" (Richard J. Mahoney); (4) "Human Resources for Industrial Research and Development" (Erich Bloch); and (5) "Cooperative R&D Ventures: Collaboration in the Semiconductor Industry" (William F. Brinkman). Discussions pertaining to each presentation are also included. (YP)
