Legalization and Citizenship Materials: A Selected Bibliography.
Bohlman, Carolyn; Terdy, Dennis
This annotated bibliography of suggested materials is intended to assist program directors and classroom teachers in determining appropriate materials for teaching legalization and citizenship candidates. The bibliography is a selected list of materials on the subjects of citizenship, government, and United States history identified for use with adult, limited-English-proficient (LEP) students. Most of the materials are for intermediate or advanced LEP students. Many of the suggested materials are written for native English-speakers, but can be adapted for an LEP population. The items listed have a simplified format and vocabulary, and a content design that is most appropriate for adult LEP learners. Materials are categorized according to their potential use as a citizenship text, a United States history supplement, a government supplement, bilingual or native language text, or teacher resource. Annotations contain information on the title, format (textbook, workbook, worktext, handbook, or pamphlet), use of maps and illustrations, number of pages and other units, number and types of exercises or activities, inclusion of answer keys, availability and content of teachers' guides, and additional evaluative remarks. A publishers and suppliers list is appended. (Author/MSE) (Adjunct ERIC Clearinghouse on Literacy Education)
