Vietnamese Amerasians: An Annotated Bibliography.
Johnson, Mark C.; And Others
This annotated bibliography on Vietnamese Amerasians includes primary and secondary sources as well as reviews of three documentary films. Sources were selected in order to provide an overview of the historical and political context of Amerasian resettlement and a review of the scant available research on coping and adaptation with this population. The literature search conducted to create this bibliography focused on the time frame from January 1962 through October 1989. While a few references, particularly those pertaining to legislation, include Amerasians of ethnic backgrounds other than Vietnamese, the search focused primarily on Vietnamese Amerasians. The search drew from the following sources: Psychological Abstracts, Sociological Abstracts, Public Affairs Information Service, Dissertation Abstracts Magazine Index, National Newspapers Index, ERIC, and Medline. The bibliography is intended to be useful to resettlement professionals and caseworkers who are assisting Vietnamese Amerasians on a daily basis, as well as to clinicians and researchers whose work with refugee youth include this population. The review underscores the need for careful, longitudinal work focusing on educational, vocational, and emotional needs of this population. Citations for 34 articles and 3 films are included.
