South Carolina Guide for Middle School Home Economics.
Pough, Carmen R.
This guide was developed to assist administrators and teachers in planning and conducting an exploratory program in home economics at the middle-school level. Curriculum content and learning experiences were selected to meet the needs and characteristics of middle-school students. The guide provides a course description, list of course competencies, and a course outline. The competencies are developed through the presentation of six units: personal development; nutrition and food use; family life; consumer education; clothing and textiles; and career education. Each unit consists of a series of competencies; a conceptual structure outline; a chart showing performance objectives keyed to a performance guide; a list of learning experiences; and a list of instructional resources for each competency. Supplements for each unit vary according to unit topic, but may include bulletin board ideas; information sheets; student worksheets and activities; quizzes with answers; and transparency masters. A five-page bibliography lists textbooks, other print resources, transparencies, and films. (KC)
