Evaluation and Assessment in Mathematics Education. Science and Technology Education Document Series No. 32.
Robitaille, David F.
This document contains 15 papers selected from 47 papers presented at a theme group of the Sixth International Congress on Mathematical Education. The papers included have been divided into four groups. The first group consists of a survey paper, which discusses the history of assessment and evaluation. The second section consists of six papers dealing with findings from the Second International Mathematics Study, which was conducted in some 20 countries in the early 1980s. The next group of papers focuses on national initiatives in evaluation in mathematics, and includes such topics as the Verification of Mathematical Ability in Compulsory Schooling project in Italy; the Assessment of Performance Unit (APU) in the United Kingdom; and the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) in the United States. The final set of papers deal with a variety of topics, including evaluation of students' problem-solving activities, diagnostic assessment, and evaluation of students' understanding of selected concepts.
