Soviet Studies Resource Guide.
Honeywell, Inc., Minneapolis, MN.; Minnesota State Dept. of Education, St. Paul.
International education is one of Minnesota's education priorities. This resource guide to materials dealing with the Soviet Union is intended to provide teachers with materials and guidance for preparing students for leadership and active citizenship in an increasingly international society. The introductory section provides statements by various people responsible for the creation of the guide as to its purpose. The bibliographies, which make up the bulk of the guide, are arranged according to the major elementary and secondary academic subjects. Each subject is introduced by a short essay intended to provide an academic framework for the bibliography. In selecting material for the guide, Minnesota educators were surveyed, recommended bibliographies and resource guides were examined, and key educators from other states were consulted. The bibliographies are divided into classroom materials for the student and resource and supplementary materials for the teacher. Listed are 47 items in history, 89 in government and foreign policy, 16 in economics, 68 in literature, 24 in the arts, 19 in geography, and 126 in general reference. Brief annotations are provided. The section on other resources lists various state and national organizations that offer programs or materials that might be of use as well as 23 Minnesota educators willing to answer other educators' questions. The section on curriculum models offers two lesson plans, one on glasnost, the other on perestroika. (JB)
