This document describes some experiences in a science/technology/society (STS) program for an eighth grade science course at a small rural school in Iowa. The background information about the school and the general goal of the STS program are outlined. The curriculum structure of the program related to water as a reusable resource is presented. Many activities are provided; including the measurement of the amount of water used by individuals, water testing, and lobbying the legislators. Some instructional strategies related to the program are suggested, including how to motivate students and how to structure teaching activities so as to achieve desired learning outcomes. Evaluation methods for teaching and testing concepts, and use of community resources are described. (YP)
