A Resource Guide for Teachers.

The Texas State Library provides services to persons unable to read standard print due to blindness or other visual impairments, including a wide range of large print materials, braille, and recordings. The library also coordinates a reading machine program incorporating 70 sites in public and academic libraries and provides classrooms with books, magazines, and equipment for students, as well as a wide range of resources to teachers, parents, and other interested persons. This five-part resource guide was compiled to make the resources more accessible to teachers. The first section provides addresses and telephone numbers of national and state organizations, and describes each organization's mission, services, and publications. The second section lists vendors of specialized products of use to individuals with disabilities. Sources are given for recorded stories; songs and learning activities; reading materials in braille; tactile and large print children's books; reference materials for students; educational games; toys; adaptive equipment and supplies; and publications of interest to parents and teachers. The third section is an annotated bibliography of books in the Texas State Library's collection pertaining to all types of disabilities for parents, teachers, and other interested persons. The fourth section is a directory of public and academic libraries participating in the Texas Reading Machine Program. The fifth section is a glossary of terms on disabilities. (SD)
