Report of the Educational Support Services Master Plan Task Force.

The evolution of educational support services at California State University (CSU) is described, and a student services master plan is proposed. Thirty recommendations for improving services, better integrating them into the system, and ensuring that they meet the needs of today's students and those enrolling in the future are presented, including the following: campuses periodically assess student needs, priorities, and opinions to measure student satisfaction with the CSU experience; student affairs play a major role in assisting the entire campus community to develop programs that foster understanding and appreciation of diverse social and cultural lifestyles; campuses seek means of recognizing and rewarding faculty participation in student services and programs that enhance the educational experience of students beyond the classroom; financial aid staff extend their efforts in pointing out the potential of financial aid for supporting and advancing outreach and recruitment efforts; and recreation and leisure activities be encouraged and supported. Six appendices are: working paper on qualities desired in CSU graduates; inventory of existing CSU student services policies; organization of student affairs in CSU; the history of student affairs in American higher education; student services evaluation standards; and task force membership.
