The Path of Good Intentions: University Preparation of Educational Leaders in Oregon.
Crampton, Faith E.; Westbrook, Kathleen C.
An analysis is conducted of the extent to which the stated goals and required academic and clinical experiences of the Oregon administrator preparation program were aligned with identified leader variables and the recommendations of recent educational administration reform reports. Variable categories were selection and admissions, content and training, and outcomes. The administrative certification program at the University of Oregon over the past 10 years is described and analyzed with regard to the Integrated Framework for University Preparation of Educational Leaders. Criteria for four administrator certificates are described: (1) basic administrator certificate; (2) standard administrator certificate; (3) basic superintendent certificate; and (4) standard superintendent certificate. Findings indicate that the administrator preparation program has changed little over the past 10 years. Diversity in terms of ethnic minority, handicapped, and female representation is not actively pursued. The program that exists appears to be very traditional in nature. (11 references) (SI)
