This document suggests a process that North Dakota vocational instructional program advisory committee (VIP) chairpersons and educational personnel may follow to improve the organizational structure of the committee and carry out its work. Part 1 discusses the purpose and roles of the VIP committee, the role of the chairperson, and the role of the educator. Part 2 recommends procedures and policies for establishing a committee, which includes information on the size of the committee, its term of service, the selection of members, the selection process and duties of officers, the orientation of new members, the committee charter or constitution, and the bylaws. Part 2 also includes samples of an invitation letter to a potential committee member, a letter of appointment, a charter, and bylaws. Part 3 contains guidelines for planning, conducting, and preparing minutes of the meetings. Samples of an agenda for a meeting to organize the committee, an agenda for a regular meeting, a notice of a meeting, and minutes of a meeting are included. Part 4 recommends and explains five steps for planning committee work: establish annual priorities, specify committee activities, develop planning tasks, assign responsibilities, and establish time lines. Six sample work sheets are included. Part 5 tells how the committee can formulate recommendations, includes sample recommendations, and suggests the periodic review of its program of work. (CML)
