World Perspective Case Descriptions on Educational Programs for Adults: Greece.

The case study contained in this document describes the Greek In-Service Training System (INST) for primary and secondary school teachers, critically analyzes INST's function, and delineates its future perspectives. The approach taken involves relating the INST to its socio-historical, -ideological, and -political context. An introduction announces this aim, defines terms, states the assumptions upon which the approach rests, explains the social, economic, and educational context, and describes the initial training of teachers. The next section describes in-service training for teachers, including post-initial education, the one-year in-service teacher training institutions, short in-service training courses and seminars, seminars and conferences organized by agencies other than the INST, school-focused in-service training, and proposed reforms. A section of critical comments is followed by a 22-item reference list. In addition to the case description, this document includes information on the World Perspective case study project, indexes of all cases by country and by category, and guidelines for contributors.
