Corporate/Community Schools of America. Progress Report, 1988-89.
Corporate/Community Schools of America, Chicago, IL.
This document comprises a progress report on the 1988-89 activities of the Corporate/Community Schools of America (C/CSA), a not-for-profit coalition of business executives, concerned educators, and community leaders working to reform urban public education by setting standards for higher quality and by demonstrating successful instructional methods and sound school management principles that can be replicated in inner-city public schools nationwide. C/CSA establishes and operates business-sponsored elementary schools grounded in sound research, successful teaching methods, and "market-driven" innovations. The following major goals were accomplished in 1988-89: (1) opening the flagship demonstration school in Chicago; (2) involving parents in their children's learning and providing opportunities for their own educational development; and (3) establishing a program to connect students and their families with social service agencies that can help them surmount societal obstacles to learning. The following goals for 1989-90 are outlined: (1) instructional program development; (2) faculty development; (3) parent programs and involvement; (4) social service support network; (5) professional development; (6) public school outreach; (7) research and evaluation; and (8) reform and project development. A summary of cash flow and expenditures is illustrated with statistical data on two charts and one graph. Lists of contributors and donors are appended. (FMW)
