Incentive and Recruitment Campaign for the San Antonio Family Day Home Accrediation Program. Final Report.
Nelsen, Mary Jo
This report provides background information on the nation's first family day care accreditation system, a system established by the city of San Antonio in 1985. Program components, including workshops, home visits, and validation, are described. Information concerning a 1988 incentive and recruitment campaign that was funded by Mervyn's Corporation is provided. Recruitment methods included a press conference, television appearances, newspaper articles, and bulk mailings to publicize $100 gift certificates which providers earned by becoming accredited during the campaign. "Love for a Living" recruitment materials were used. Results of an evaluation of the recruitment and incentive campaign showed that paid advertising generated 39 percent of the requests for information. A comparison of program participants who did not qualify for the gift certificate with those who did indicated that the incentive was effective in motivating providers to become accredited. Results of a parent survey and future directions for the accreditation program are discussed. Appended materials include articles about the recruitment campaign, sample bulk mailings, and sample advertisements. (Author/RH)
