Rolling Terrace: An Effective School under Adverse Conditions.
Gordon, Constance H.
Rolling Terrace is a low-income, high-minority primary education school (grades headstart through 4) with higher than average test scores, a good atmosphere, and high teacher enthusiasm and dedication. Open-ended questions, observations, and a survey were used to gather information from all but 4 of the 51 faculty and staff members to determine the factors responsible for the school's success. Results identified the principal's high expectations for staff and students, excellent human relations skills, and energetic approach to work, combined with a long tenure and an ability to handpick appropriate staff members, as the explanation of the school's effectiveness.
