Profile of a Quality Centre.
Montreal Catholic School Commission, (Quebec).
Directed to Canadian directors of centers for adult education, this document describes what constitutes quality in a center for adult education and tells how to develop a high quality center. The document consists of three chapters and two appendices. Chapter 1 explains the five dimensions that determine the quality of a center and the 5 factors that influence the dimensions. The dimensions are: the concept of the center; guidance counseling; pedagogical practices; social influences in the center; and the administrative leadership. Chapter 2 explains the indicators of quality with which a center can measure the effectiveness of its operation. The indicators are educational achievement, dropout rate or attendance rate, social behavior, and readiness for the job market. Chapter 3 offers a general framework for a three-step implementation of strategies to be identified by individual centers in order to improve. The steps are to evaluate the active presence of the different factors that influence the cultural quality of the center; draw up a plan to activate or maintain the different factors that influence the cultural quality; and evaluate the influence of the actions taken. The first appendix contains a tabular arrangement of the dimensions, factors, and indicators explained in the document. The second appendix contains tables that centers can use to collect data. (CML)
