Peace Corps Rural Energy Survey: Senegal. Training for Development Series. Training Manual No. T-27.
Peace Corps, Washington, DC. Information Collection and Exchange Div.
This survey was undertaken by the Peace Corps to assist Senegal in identifying energy needs in rural areas and in implementing alternative, renewable energy projects at the community level. This book describes the sample, energy use, energy needs, and resources. Fifteen villages of fewer than 5,000 people were selected for data collection. The sources and end-users of energy were found to be quite similar in all of the villages, while differences occur primarily in the availability and ease of access to energy sources. Easier access to firewood and reducing demands on human energy for drawing water and grinding grain were rated top priorities by villagers. This book suggests some village-level programing for energy assistance. Profiles of selected villages are appended. (YP)
