This document contains two issues of a journal for elementary and secondary teachers which provide materials and teaching ideas for integrating folk music appreciation into social studies, literature, and humanities courses. Issue 1 covers the Federalist Period (1786-1801), and issue 2 the Jefferson and Madison years (1801-1816). Each song is set in its historical and social contexts through the use of brief histories throughout the journal, music and lyrics are provided, and follow-up classroom activities are presented.
