Responding to the Needs of the Homeless and Hungry.
American National Red Cross, Washington, DC.
This report describes the Hotels-Motels in Partnership Program, a human services resource sponsored by the Red Cross and other organizations to respond to housing needs of the homeless, disaster victims, and others in need of emergency assistance. The partnership program involves several hundred businesses in more than 240 communities. Since its establishment in 1982, the program has provided emergency housing to more than 10,000 persons through the donation of lodging for use by local social service agencies. An associated initiative, the Restaurants in Partnership Program, provides meal coupons for those in emergency need. This publication presents profiles of services to the homeless and hungry for the following selected Red Cross chapters: (1) Prince Georges County (Maryland); (2) St. Louis Bi-State (Missouri and Illinois); (3) Lenawee County (Michigan); (4) Golden Gate (California); (5) Anderson County (South Carolina); (6) Greater Cleveland (Ohio); (7) Berks County (Pennsylvania); (8) Douglas County (Oregon); (9) Southwest Florida; (10) Oregon Trail; (11) Pikes Peak (Colorado); (12) Pioneer Valley (Massachusetts); (13) Mahoning (Ohio); (14) Garland County (Arizona); (15) Dayton Area (Ohio); (16) Ventura County (California); and (17) Central Illinois. Profiles include program descriptions, goals, achievements, and names, addresses, and telephone numbers of contact persons. A concluding section, which includes six charts, documents Red Cross chapters' nonmandated social services to their communities. (AF)
