Spencer, Paula K.
This report examines a study of parent involvement in children's preschool education. The first of five chapters discusses the demographic and social changes that have escalated the home-school relationship, and made parent involvement an essential element of a successful preschool experience. The second chapter reviews the literature and includes guidelines and suggestions for planning and implementing parent involvement. The third chapter describes the study subjects, apparatus, and procedures which were used in a survey of parent involvement. The survey was conducted through a questionnaire completed by 74 parents of a private nursery school in Lake Orion, Michigan and 21 early childhood graduate students. The questionnaire asked for data on demographics, the importance of certain forms of parent involvement, and the home-school relationship. The fourth chapter reports the results and analyzes the survey, and the fifth chapter presents suggestions for further research. Included in the appendix (the bulk of the document) are copies of a letter sent to parents about the survey, a copy of the questionnaire, a list of items needed for recycling, a list of 32 references, and completed questionnaires.
