Data on 102 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) collected through three annual surveys of academic science and engineering (S/E) resources are presented. Twenty-three tables are derived from: the Survey of Scientific and Engineering Expenditures at Universities and Colleges (tables 1-4); the Survey of Federal Support to Universities, Colleges, and Nonprofit Institutions (tables 5-10); and the Survey of Graduate Science and Engineering Students and Postdoctorates (tables 11-23). The tables include the following: total and federally financed research and development expenditures at HBCUs fiscal years 1984-87; federal obligations to HBCUs ranked in descending order of total amount received fiscal year 1987; S/E graduate students in HBCUs by field, type of control, and enrollment status 1987; full-time S/E graduate students in HBCUs by field type and major support 1987; male and female S/E graduate students in HBCUs by field 1980-87; graduate S/E enrollment in HBCUs by field 1987; full- and part-time S/E graduate students in HBCUs by field 1980-87; and summary of responses from all departments at all HBCUs fall 1987.
