The Ethics of School Administration.
Strike, Kenneth A.; And Others
This is the first book in the Teachers College Press series, Professional Ethics in Education, which is devoted to the examination of ethical issues in all educational settings. The book's purpose is to teach a range of ethical concepts and the process of ethical reasoning to educational administrators. Organized around cases, each chapter begins with a case presenting a moral dilemma, then analyzes the moral principles involved and concludes with several other cases dealing with the issues of that chapter. The chapter topics are (1) administration and ethical thinking; (2) intellectual liberty; (3) individual freedom and the public interest; (4) equal educational opportunity; (5) educational evaluation; (6) educational authority; and (7) supplemental cases. The final chapter's cases deal with 11 issues--for example, honesty, integrity, conflict of interest, and exploitation--that are not linked to the previous chapters' topics. Appended are 33 annotated bibliography references. (SI)
