The first section of the book, "What Writing Is," consists of two chapters of primary interest to teachers, and provides a general orientation to the document's approach. The second section, "Exercises and Activities for Becoming a Writer," is composed primarily of exercises and is recommended as the proper starting place for all readers who wish to become more fluent and more confident writers. The third section, "Studies for the Enhancement of Writing," contains more advanced exercises and experiments both in writing and the linguistic awareness that enhances writing skill.
