A Guide to Accessing Standards Information in Canada. Symposium Series.
Hagan, Norm A.
This publication has been developed for use as an educational aid and practical reference guide to assessing standards information in Canada, where pressure has increased to implement existing standards and to develop new ones, and where increasing competition in international trade has emphasized the need for industries to comply with foreign standards. A logical approach to locating needed documents and information related to standards is provided in the guide, which is divided into seven chapters: (1) the who, what, and how of standards; (2) catalogues, directories, and databases containing information on standards; (3) the formats and classification of standards collections; (4) sources of information on standards; (5) obtaining copies of standards and other documents; (6) information on the Advisory Committee on Standards Information Services and the National Standards Information System of Canada (CANSIS); and (7) a directory of sources of information and documents. Also included are a bibliography containing both references and recommended readings and a list of acronyms used in the guide. (CGD)
