National Directory of Special Education Personnel Preparation Programs. 1987 Edition.
Blackhurst, A. Edward; And Others
The 1987 Directory provides information about 1,165 special education personnel preparation programs in the United States and its Trust Territories. Programs to prepare personnel as teachers, special education administrators, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and adaptive physical educators are included. The directory is organized alphabetically by state, and within each state those colleges and universities which offer certification or degree programs in special education are listed in alphabetical order. A coding system is used to identify program level (such as undergraduate certification, graduate certification, Bachelor's degree, and Master's degree) and areas of preparation (such as audiology, administration, emotional disturbance, mental retardation, physical therapy, speech language pathology, occupational therapy, hearing impairments, and gifted). In addition to the coded information, each listing provides an address and phone number. Information was gained as a result of a survey of the programs in the spring of 1986. (DB)
