Specific education and training requirements for entry to all major occupations at a variety of levels are presented, and work information is provided (including how to figure out the requirements for entry into the vast number of occupations, understanding which training programs will actually lead to a good job, helping the client isolate interests and skills, and offering positive suggestions to the student with poor academics). The 40 chapters are presented in six sections as follows: (1) the five-step process (counseling context, how some successful people found their vocation, the process of vocational counseling, alternative ways to learn, and choosing the specific school program or job); (2) the biological sciences (fitness/sports training/physical therapies, animal science, horticulture, health worker, and biological research); (3) the manual arts (carpentry and cabinetmaking, crafts, professional cooking, electrical and mechanical work, plumber, auto mechanic, broadcast engineering, and aviation); (4) the arts (the fine arts, museum work and arts management, acting, dancing, technical theatre, photography, film/TV/video production, graphics, interior design, fashion design, and music); (5) business and communications (business, the behavioral sciences, advertising and marketing, teaching/law/politics/government/foreign affairs, and writing); and (6) the numbers (the physical sciences, computers, engineering, actuaries/statisticians/economists, banking and finance, and bookkeeping and accounting).
