What Supervisors of Student Teaching and Student Teachers Tell Us about Student Teaching.
Zerr, Rita G.
As we look for direction in improving teacher education, we should examine what research is telling us about the student teaching experience. This paper addresses the following areas: (1) a survey of literature documenting the critical role of student teaching and the cooperating teacher in teacher preparation and reporting related research on anxiety and the problems of student teachers; (2) a report on anxieties of prospective cooperating teachers; (3) a study of what student teachers have said about their cooperating teachers; (4) a national survey of supervisor of student teaching state endorsement requirements; and (5) recommendations for future research and suggested selected activities for consideration in "Supervision of Student Teaching" and "Student Teaching" courses.
