Education as a Career.
Careers in education offer a unique kind of immediacy intensity, and intimacy. There is a need in this growing field for talented and committed people with a wide range of skills. Teaching, counseling, nurturing, instructing, sharing, growing--these verbs describe the nature of a career in education, regardless of the age of the learner with whom one is involved. Counselor, principal, tutor, vocational-education teacher, dental hygienist, transportation specialist, community relations aide, financial aid specialist, audiologist, ombudsman are only some of the many possibilities for employment in this field. This booklet describes the importance of education to the individual and to society, offers a rationale for choosing education as an occupation, discusses options available, and describes preparing for a career in education including future staffing needs. Listings of suggested resources and of possible careers in education are appended. (JD)
