The Jefferson College Learning Center: A Multifaceted Approach to Education.

This compilation of statistical tables, promotional materials, advisory letters and related materials for students, and other information provides an overview of the activities, staffing, goals, and objectives of the Jefferson College Learning Center. The primary mission of the Learning Center is to bring the full resources of the institution to bear on helping students develop their full academic and personal potentials through a variety of academic and support activities throughout their college experience. The services provided by the Center include individualized, competency-based basic skills courses; tutorial services in mathematics, English, reading, and study skills; make-up testing; computer-assisted instruction; and college survival skills training. The Center report includes the following types of information: (1) a flow chart showing the relationships of the various aspects of the program (i.e., counseling and placement; learning center; adult basic education; and mainstreaming); (2) staff and their responsibilities; (3) enrollment history, retention rates, and course enrollments and grades; (4) results of a follow-up study of learning center students in mainstream courses, 1977-1982; (5) student characteristics; (6) Learning Center scheduling; (7) student communication; (8) data on the Learning Center's program for high school students; (9) mission and goals statements; (10) fact sheets for faculty; (11) minutes of the Learning Center Advisory Board Meeting; and (12) course outlines.
