Parents and Preschoolers Report on Home Play Patterns, Television and Pretending.
Data from observations, parent questionnaires, and child interviews were collected from 36 preschool children and their parents for this investigation of the relationships between preschool children's play patterns at home and at school, and variables from the home environment. In addition, comparisons were made between: (1) mothers' responses to questions concerning the home play environment, television viewing patterns, and attitudes toward fantasy play; (2) fathers' responses to the same items; and (3) children's responses in interviews concerning their make-believe play, and their preferences for activities and television programs. A 34-item reference list and 5 data tables conclude the document. (PCB)
