Class Size and Educational Effectiveness.

Brief abstracts of research studies on the subject of the relationship between class size and student achievement are presented in this bibliography. The first part of the study examines the research concerned with the reduction of class size and the positive effects it has on student achievement, particularly in the areas of reading and mathematics. The second part reviews the research that supports greater achievement gains with larger classes. The final area of concentration deals with the research studies showing no difference in student achievement with regard to class size. Particular attention is paid throughout the study to the statistical significance of test scores. Also, some research considering the effect class size has on student and teacher attitudes, student behavior, and classroom environment is included. (JD)
