The State of the State's Gifted and Talented Education. 2nd Edition.
The results of a 1985 survey of members of the Council of State Directors of Programs for the Gifted are presented. The survey was designed to portray the status of gifted education across the nation. Responses are presented (largely in table form) from members representing 48 states and the District of Columbia on three major topic areas (sample subtopics in parentheses): (1) state level information (specific placement of gifted and talented education in the State Department of Education, responsibilities of state directors, states' definitions, state certification requirements, funding provisions, and requirements for early entrance to school); (2) program information (funding, program models, program standards, most needed improvements, research efforts, provisions for low income and minority students); and (3) special initiatives (state supported summer programs and Saturday/after school programs, teacher training institutes).
