Exploring Successful Practice to Improve the Professional Development of Educators.
Copa, Patricia M.
Using tools from ethonography, this study constructed a model of reflective practice drawn from the words and actions of a small group of field-based educators identified as being exemplary practitioners. The model portrayed a purposeful and dynamic process in which acute attention to context and factors was weighed against consciously evaluated goals and critically scrutinized means. The results of this reflection were directed toward making judgments regarding action which reflected optimal balance between polemics developed through observation and study. This reconception of the practice of educators, if determined to be more effective than other approaches, has implications for selection and hiring for pre- and in-service education, for supervision, and for future research and study.
