Evaluation of Gender Role Workshop: Three Years of Follow-Up Data.
O'Neil, James M.; Carroll, Marianne Roberts
A 6-day gender role workshop for adult men and women is described using current theory and research. The principle concepts discussed in the workshop were adult gender role journeys, gender role transitions, and gender role conflicts. The workshop's curriculum and process are described, including workshop themes, lectures, media, and structured group activities. Systematic follow-up evaluations of participants (N=82) in three separate workshops are reported. Participants' personal and professional reactions to the workshop are reported for each day of the workshop, immediately following the workshop, 1 and 3 months after the workshop, and 1 and 2 years after the workshop. These evaluations provide insights into participants' reactions to the workshop's content and process. Results are discussed which showed that participants were affected personally and professionally over the multiple time periods. Limitations of evaluation data presented and implications for counselors implementing future workshops are discussed. (Author/NB)
