The State of the Art of High Tech Aids.
Brady, Mary E.
The paper describes current problems in the design and application of high technology aids for disabled people and offers strategies for addressing those problems. Following an explanation of terms and a description of the functions of an aid system, the following five components of such systems are examined: physical interface, selection technique, acceleration techniques, output forms, and underlying processes involved. Four commercially available aids are analyzed in terms of communication, telephone use, and written display. Issues of control and computer access are also addressed. (CL)
