Introduction to Vocations: A Teacher's Guide for the Educationally Handicapped. Revised.
Sabitino, R.; And Others
The guide is intended to develop realistic self concepts and goals as a basis for wise career and educational decisions by mildly retarded, neurologically impaired, and perceptually impaired students. An initial section lists learning charcteristics of handicapped students and pairs them with suggested teaching procedures. Lessons with objectives and procedural information are presented for two topic areas: (1) self and career awareness (covering the student as an individual, the student as a member of society, and choosing a career) and (2) economic aspects of living (including such areas as using newspaper advertisements, understanding a savings account, understanding insurance, buying on credit). The final section provides activities for exploration of manufacturing and construction occupations, touching on such topics as safety, job notebooks, tool learning, values and ambitions, and craft production experience. An occupational interest form and a list of indoor entry level occupations showing whether or not union membership is required are appended. (CL)
