Design and Curriculum Considerations for a Computer Graphics Program in the Arts.
Leeman, Ruedy W.
This history and state-of-the-art review of computer graphics describes computer graphics programs and proposed programs at Sheridan College (Canada), the Rhode Island School of Design, the University of Oregon, Northern Illinois University, and Ohio State University. These programs are discussed in terms of their philosophy, curriculum, student requirements, and concerns, and their relationships with one or more of the following curriculum orientations are explored: (1) behavioral, (2) subject/disciplines, (3) social, (4) developmental, (5) cognitive process, (6) humanistic, (7) transpersonal, and/or (8) technological. This analysis of existing programs is designed to serve as an aid in the development of a usable curriculum orientation for computer graphics, and design and curriculum requirements for a proposed computer graphics program for the arts are outlined. Flexibility is emphasized as a necessary ingredient for a computer graphics curriculum. (MES)
