This 1986-1987 guide provides trend data on U.S. higher education, with attention to: demographics/economics, faculty and staff, degrees, students, enrollments, institutions, and financial aid. The new section on student financial aid includes data on distribution of campus-based aid among the postsecondary sectors and average award levels under each major form of aid. Enrollment data include: enrollment by level of study, 1899-1993 (actual and projected); enrollment by sex and type of school, 1950-1984; and minority enrollment by region and state, 1972-1982. Data on earned degrees include: earned degrees by level, type of school, and recipient sex, approximately 1947-1987; earned degrees by level and race, 1982-1983; and earned degrees by specialty areas, 1947-1982. Additional data include: average college costs by institution type, 1977-1988; characteristics of entering freshmen; average faculty salary by rank and type of college, 1970-1985; and voluntary support of higher education, 1969-1984; and current fund revenues and expenditures for public and private institutions. The format is data tables, graphs, maps, and narrative highlights. Enrollment, degree, employment, and demographic data are summarized separately for both minorities and women. (SW)
